A method is described to present a simple non-changing display structure to allow the complex functions of Audio Editing to be presented to the audio novice as well as experienced audio technicians. The figure illustrates a single panel display structure to accomplish the user interface to the audio editor. The editor is designed to allow for the manipulation of at most two audio objects at a single point in time; therefore, it is necessary to provide a simple, stable display which keeps the identified audio objects and their active time points in front of the user at all times. To accomplish editing operations involving more than two objects, the user changes the selections during the editing, thereby always operating on audio object #1 and/or audio object #2.
