Abstract

An expert system for isolating specific failed components on a printed circuit board is described. An expert system is used to determine which components should be replaced. The expert system is given a list of all the devices that have failed tests on the circuit board. It prints out a prioritized list of failing devices for use in printed circuit board repair. The expert system is composed of a knowledge base with four separate focus control blocks (FCBs) of facts and rules, as shown in Fig. 1. (Image Omitted) First, the card FCB 10 interacts with the user to obtain the list of failed devices. Then, the miscellaneous chips FCB 20 and the false results FCB 30 determine the dependencies between the devices and estimate the probability of failure of the devices in the list employing the device probabilities presented below.
