A technique is described where, by hybrid data sharing architecture, the advantages of both data sharing and function shipping for processing database information in multiple computer systems are combined. Also, included is a control method for determining which databases to share and which to privately retain. In multi-system function shipping architecture, databases are partitioned among the systems and a facility is provided to support the shipping of database requests among the systems and to process a transaction with database requests to more than one system. However, in data sharing architecture, all systems have direct access to the shared database, and a transaction is run completely on a single system.
