In conventional complex computer installations involving a number of CPUs and peripherals in which any CPU can and must access any peripheral, problems are frequently encountered in powering on or powering off each of the CPUs or peripherals. In most computer room locations, it is necessary to cable each peripheral device to each accessing CPU to make sure that the peripherals are on when the CPU is on. The other alternative is no power connection between the CPUs and peripherals at all, requiring manual intervention at power on and power off times. To overcome these problems, it is useful to employ a dedicated power control CPU which serves a number of CPUs which are connected in turn to a number of shared peripheral units.
