Computer workstations that support keyboard and mouse alternatives for selection of fields in menus currently do so either: 1. by requiring the user to use a particular device, not allowing the other device to be used, or 2. by requiring the user to pick one or the other device exclu sively via the setting of a mode Often, the selection of a particular device depends on particular situations and user preferences. With current systems the user is prevented from performing operations in the most convenient and productive manner. The new method described makes both devices available simultaneously thereby allowing the user to pick the most convenient and productive device for the current situation.
