Method for Testing a Video Signal

A test method is described wherein an actual video signal to be used in a color video graphic display is compressed and compared with an expected compressed signal so as to improve the detectability of a difference in a dot ("ON") position between the actual video signal and an expected video signal. Heretofore, a test for errors in a video signal was performed by using a dot counter which counts dots of the video signal. According to this prior art, it is not possible to detect position errors of the video signal. So, in this prior art, an operator has to check a display pattern visually, posing troublesome work to the operator and reliability concerns. An object of the present test method is to detect a shift and destruction of the video signal data.
