A technique is described whereby three encoders and a selector are utilized to generate a flicker color code from a source color code for multicolor display applications which require blinking of a text or a pixel on the display screen. As shown in the figure, source color code signals (i.e., primary and secondary R inputs) 12 and 13 indicating the beam intensity of CRT (cathode ray tube) for color red are inputted to an encoder 10 and a selector 11. Encoder outputs 14 and 15 are converted beam intensity signals. Selector outputs (i.e., primary and secondary R outputs) 16 and 17 are identical to the signals 12 and 13, respectively, if a select signal 20 is set to select the source color. If it is set to select the encoder output, they are identical to the encoder outputs 14 and 15 respectively.
