Abstract

An aluminum grinding wheel, that carries replaceable grinding media which are affixed directly to the wheel and require frequent replacement, has been modified to carry segments to which are mounted the grinding media. (Image Omitted) As shown in Fig. 1, the grinding wheel 6 has five segments 7, each spanning an arc of 72 degrees along the wheel and attached thereto by bolts 8. Each segment 7 has seven grinding stones 9 bonded at specific locations as also illustrated in the section view of Fig. 2. The segments 7 can be readily mounted or removed using an air powered tool. Segments 7, upon separation from the wheel, can have the grinding stones 9 removed and replaced at a remote location with such rework to be done in an area with suitable facilities, such as special ventilation.
