Shielded Connector Assembly Using Metalized Plastic

A method and means are disclosed for significantly reducing, at low cost, connector cross-track noise in a high speed, impedance-controlled digital transmission system. This is achieved by using a surface metalized plastic two-position connector housing as a shielded terminating unit. Since only four outside surfaces, which are parallel to the cable and the wire crimp receptacles, are metalized, plating cost is very low. As illustrated in the exploded view, twenty-four two-position metalized plastic connector housing units 1 are stacked together to form a 2x25 column connector housing 2. Metalized plastic surfaces 3a-3d of the housing units are electrically connected together by physical contact.
