Method of Monitoring Serial Data Being Transferred Across the Enhanced Small Device Interface

When testing hard files and hard file controller adapters with the system shown in Fig. 1, a problem arises that involves trying to monitor all the serial data being transferred across the interface. This problem is more difficult across the ESDI (enhanced small device interface) because data is transferred at such high speed (10 million bits per second). To examine what is going on across the interface, a timing analyzer was used and 17 single pulses were examined to determine commands and status. After the value of the 17 bits was determined, they would have to be translated into the actual command or status.
