A method is described to significantly reduce the number of diskettes required for RT PC program products and updates. The backup and restore commands are part of the AIX* Operating System program product. They are used to back-up specified files to disk or diskette(s) so that at a later time the files may be restored on the same machine or on a different machine. An unlimited number of files may be backed up with one backup command invocation. The backed- up files may span several diskette volumes. The backup and restore commands are also used to create the "golden" program product diskettes for the RT PC workstation. This new method consists of modifications made to the backup and restore commands. The purpose was to significantly reduce the number of diskettes required for RT PC program products and updates.
