Abstract

The illustrated circuit examples monitor both single and multiple faults that can lead to catastrophic failure of hard file actuator control. These redundant circuits monitor actuator control dynamics to determine if either velocity or acceleration is excessive and, if so, (Image Omitted) inhibit control of the actuator to prevent damage. Limits on velocity and acceleration can be programmable in the digital circuit examples to satisfy adaptive applications. Control system design and analysis provide information concerning the dynamics of the plant under control. Application of drive as well as response characteristics of the plant can be determined. If the control system fails, product integrity is threatened when the plant is driven in an abnormal fashion that leads to either mechanical or electrical failure.
