Abstract

Document feeder 10 includes a tray 11 on which a stack of original documents can be manually placed for recirculation to platen 12, where the sheet stops for copying. This RADF mode of operation requires cover 13 to be opened, and then closed, but the document feeder is positioned above the platen for this mode of operation. For semiautomatic document feeding (SADF) of original documents, the operator manually places original document sheets, one at a time, on table 14. For manual copying, the document feeder is pivoted away from platen 12, and an original document sheet is manually placed on the platen. Preferably, the document feeder is pivoted back down onto the platen before this manually placed sheet is copied, but this is not a requirement. Three sheet sensors are located as shown at positions A, B, and C.
