When session addresses are reused by an address assignor in an SNA network, race conditions can cause hang conditions where one of the session partners believes the session to be active and the other believes the session to be inactive. Similar race conditions can also cause sessions to be needlessly terminated at both partners. This article introduces a universal identifier for SNA sessions that prevents such hang conditions and needless terminations. The Fully-Qualified Procedure Correlation Identifier (FQPCID) is an extension on an existing PCID. FQPCID is composed of a fixed-length PCID field followed by a variable-length network-qualified control point name (NETID.CPNAME) of the CP that generated the PCID.
