A linear stepping motor actuator can readily be adapted as an incremental transport device by forming a flexible carrier belt of regularly-spaced magnetic members that interact with a pair of stationary, opposed E-cores, each having a selectively energizable coil. Such a transport device is useful for accurately advancing small parts, paper forms, and the like. (Image Omitted) A drive tractor for printer forms is shown in Fig. 1. A schematically illustrated flexible belt 1 carrying paper feed pins 2 is supported for movement on pulleys 3 rotatably mounted on respective shafts 4. The belt moves between a pair of opposing laminated E-cores 5, 6 rigidly fixed with respect to the shafts and each having a plurality of stator poles 7, i.e., three, with each pole carrying teeth 8 and a winding 9 that can be selectively energized.
