Cable Card Connector With Bonded Bifurcated Contacts

Cable card connector 10 has the stems 11S of the bifurcated contacts 11 bonded, e.g., welded or soldered, to the ends of the printed circuit (PC) conductors 12 located on opposite faces 13 and 14 at the edge 15 of the dielectric substrate 16. The latter protrudes from the insulator housing 17 of connector 10. The blades 11A and 11B of each contact 11 is adapted to receive therebetween a pin P of a mating pluggable connector M. A flat ribbon cable C has its conductors W connected to the other ends of the conductors 12. The connector 10 can be modified accordingly to use bifurcated contacts with other configurations, such as, for example, the contacts shown in [1, 2].
