This article describes an algorithm for generating a filtered pattern for the pattern recognition device described in [*]. The algorithm steps are illustrated in the flow charts of Figs. 1-5. A description of the steps is given below. (Image Omitted) The following terms and variables are used to illustrate the algorithm: Bit Number - A variable that identifies the current bit of the pattern that is being processed. CAML - A table of "Current Active Memory Locations" . This table contains the locations in the filter memory that the pattern currently exists for each pattern for that bit time. NAML - A variable which contains the "Next Available Memory Loca- tion" . This variable is incremented by two.
