Abstract

This article describes the head-positioning mechanism and fine position-adjusting mechanism by using a piezo element that has the characteristics of quick response, high force and high resonance frequency in the magnetic storage device. This head positioning device has the transducer of piezo elements being stacked in thickness direction and utilizes the change of its thickness by forced voltage. Fig. 1 shows the basic structure of the piezo element. The thickness change of the single element is very small. But, the sufficient change of thickness is produced by stacking elements. (Image Omitted) Fig. 2 shows the application of piezo element to the head-positioning mechanism of the magnetic storage devices. The piezo element 1 is mounted on base 4.
