A method is described which automatically establishes a workstation-to- host communication connection. Historically, the burden has been on the user of a communication access method to be knowledgeable of the multitude of different parameters and settings (LU Types, link types, session variables, link variables, profile linking, etc.) needed to be able to establish a session between the host computer and a workstation. In a workstation, such as the IBM RT/PC, the knowledgeable user has the ability to customize his host environment by setting parameters in any/all of the following profiles: . Connection Profile . Attachment Profile . Local LU Profile . Control Point Profile . Logical Link Profile . Physical Link Profile . Mode Profile .
