The Structured Query Language (SQL) developed for use with relational database systems is used to describe database operations to the IBM Database Manager. Accessing records in a database table is one such operation. Other database products employ a system of control blocks which implement control functions and record accesses specified by a given SQL statement. These control blocs are subsequently manipulated by control block specific functions at execution time. This requires a relatively complex supervisor function to control the execution environment and invocation of the database manipulation algorithms. This new method employs the Table Access threaded-code operator which functions in a common environment with the other threaded-code operators.
