Method to Provide a Blinking Message Indicator in an All-Points-Addressable Display Environment Via Software

A method is described which provides a blinking message indicator ">" using software when running DisplayWrite in the PC Basic Input/Output Subroutines (BIOS) APA Modes, even when there is no display hardware character blink attribute in the APA modes. The IBM PC Monochrome Display and Printer Adapter (MDPA) drives the IBM PC Monochrome Display Model 5151 (MONO) in PC BIOS Mode 7 when running DisplayWrite 4* in Alpha Numeric (A/N). A display hardware character blink attribute exists. When this display hardware attribute is set, all the picture elements ((PELs) or dots on the screen that make up the character) blink. The IBM PC Color Graphics Adapter (CGA) drives the IBM PC Color Display Model 5152 (CD) or the IBM PC Enhanced Color Display Model 5154 (ECD) in PC BIOS Mode 3 when running DisplayWrite 4 in A/N.
