Abstract

A technique is described whereby an algorithm, called overlapping sweep (OLSWEEP), is provided for transmission group (TG) resequencing as used in computer communications networks, so as to accommodate increases in link bandwidth, without changing packet format. The OLSWEEP is intended to overcome inefficiencies occurring in SNA TG sweep schemes, which require suspension of transmissions after transmission of each group of packets. In a typical communications network, nodes can be connected by more than one physical link. The TG in SNA is one example of multi- link connection. A TG may be a single link or consist of multiple and possibly heterogeneous links. A multi-link TG (MLTG) is desirable because of its bandwidth, improved availability, such as its ability to break only if all links are not functional.
