Abstract

There arises a need by the application user to save and restore a particular area of the display screen. It can be one or two lines, one or two areas that overlap different screen areas, in either case this requires the user to provide a buffer to save the data. It is not possible to use the system save buffer which is set up to save and restore the underlying text window and is used by Menu Manager Component. When the display environment is in Alpha Numeric (A/N) during the running of DisplayWrite 4* (DW4), the display adapter RAM set aside for displaying the screen contains the following arrangement: first character on the screen (top row, first column) has an ASCII-coded character byte and then a character attribute byte. This two-byte format is then repeated for 80 columns and 25 rows of screen characters.
