This article describes a technique which allows additional features to be attached to an automotive technician terminal through a remote box without requiring a card slot in the terminal personal computer. When there are additional requirements needed for the technician terminal and there is no room to install another attachment card, the technique disclosed herein will allow many functions to be attached one at a time using the existing assembly line diagnostic link (ALDL) attachment. The drawing is a block diagram showing the technician terminal system with the standard features and how the remote attachments can connect. In the drawing all of the hardware to the left of the vertical dotted line is standard technician terminal hardware. The microcode for the ALDL is standard.
