Abstract

A technique is described whereby a thermal printing station uses a stationary printhead and a moving platen to achieve non-impact, instantly dried ink printing on a moving product. The concept provides non-destructive printing onto products, such as thin ceramic greensheets, which require printing of serial numbers and/or bar codes and other identification, without destroying the product. The concept is an improvement over previous methods of thermal printing, in that the printing is performed while the product is moving, thereby eliminating stopping operations while printing is performed. The thermal printing station utilizes existing thermal printhead assembly 10, as shown in the figure, which includes printhead 11 and carrier assembly 12.
