A method is described to overcome the inaccessibility of system errors and Management Services data at a personal computer end node without the aid of a network attached host system. The processing of Management Services data generated by a personal computer communications subsystem in the form of a Network Management Vector Transport (NMVT) has been the responsibility of a host system (i.e., NMVTs have had to be sent from an end node to a host system running NPDA/Netview applications for processing). This Management Services data, in conjunction with other system error data, plays an integral role in problem determination, and has been generally inaccessible to the user at the end node without the aid of a network attached host system equipped with the appropriate error processing software (e.g., NPDA applications).
