A take-up spool, mounting and drive mechanism designed for low-cost production and efficient operation as part of a journal printer is disclosed. The roll is molded in two snap-together parts and mounted inside frames having a plastic detent spring. The roll is driven through a gear train from an O-ring belt which allows for slippage as the paper accumulates on the take-up roll. Fig. 1 shows a top view of the journal paper take-up system with the roll shown generally at 11 between side frames 13. Molded on the end of the roll is a gear 15 which is driven by another gear 17 having an O-ring groove in its hub for receiving O-ring 19 to drive the spool. The spool 11 is molded in two parts.
