A method is described to implement a System Network Architecture (SNA) Logical Unit (LU) Type 1, 2, 3 Application Program Interface (API) to conform to the facility provided by IBM SNA LU Type 6.2. The method provides a standard verb interface for the IBM SNA LU Type 1, 2, 3 protocol. (Image Omitted) In previous versions of the SNA LU Type 1, 2, 3 protocol, the API was dependent upon the implementation of the underlying LU protocol. The application program which uses the underlying LU Type 1, 2, 3 protocol must be written for that specific protocol implementation. Since there is not a standard Application Program Interface for SNA LU Type 1, 2, 3, an application program may not function with different implementations of the same protocol and will not function for implementations of different protocols.
