Approach to the Use of an Action Bar

This article describes a method for using an action bar which allows a simple, consistent presentation of actions across a complex application or set of applications. The action bar is a user interface device which offers the designer the ability to consolidate many functions on a single panel and to make function easily recognizable by and available to the user. However, the use of an action bar in itself cannot guarantee simplicity or ease of use, particularly in a complex application or set of applications. The standards described below establish a consistent approach to the use of an action bar, a consistent and integrated approach which can be used across applications to enhance ease of use. 1.
