Abstract

File integrity is generally achieved only via a Security function and a Directory function. The Security function precludes unauthorized access; the Directory function precludes simultaneous uncontrolled access. However, within the same Security domain, the Directory function only ensures the integrity of the file while the file is actually in use, because the normal Directory functions have a life span equal to the life of User session(s). Accommodating multiple users of the same file is achieved by some form of logging in storage, which means that the integrity of a file is guaranteed only as long as someone is actually using the file.
