Building an easy-to-use, prompted interface that allows the user to define Structured Query Language (SQL) statements makes it necessary to limit the function available in SQL to build complex statements. The novice user does not need all of the function provided in this extensive language. On the other hand, it may be useful to an experienced user to use the prompted interface to begin the statement in the prompted mode, then convert the statement to add additional complexity. In accordance with the new method, a function that actually converts the prompted information into the appropriate syntactically correct SQL statement is provided within the user interface for building a prompted statement.
