High Density Master Image Cell Design

Design automation tools put in place to design macros and chips quickly and efficiently in one pass have not always been able to compete with custom designers who handcraft their layouts with higher density and performance results. This article describes a novel cell design that allows performance while maintaining quickness and efficiency. (Image Omitted) The uniqueness of this cell design is that both custom and standard cell designs are present in one tool, resulting in macros and chips half the size of the conventional cell design. Due to resultant wiring length reductions, these macros and chips will operate at higher frequencies and lower power dissipation.
