A control system for a robotic screwdriver accepts commands from a control computer and controls the screwdriver motor to ensure successful performance of those commands. The control system also controls a vacuum screw pick-up at the screwdriver tip and receives feedback information from the screwdriver on screw presence/absence, rotation of the screwdriver and instantaneous torque of the screwdriver. The control system can cope with different types of screws by storing screw data in a look-up table.
