In order to test card readers in banking terminals, a compliant gripper/ pusher mechanism is provided which enables card insertion and removal in card readers with manual insertion and removal, or readers with manual insertion and automatic ejection. Two or more cards may be inserted in a slide for use during testing. The gripper includes a chute down which cards are guided and a gripper/pusher to move cards into and out of the card reader. The card handling mechanism shown in Figs. 1 and 2 mechanically inserts and removes magnetic strip banking cards into a card reader and allows a selection of one of two cards available. The mechanism is also capable of inserting a card into a terminal for processing and then removing the card after automatic ejection by the terminal.
