Abstract

A method is described to define fields without having the field definition appear directly on the panel itself. (Image Omitted) A panel is created to view or edit data from tables in the database. The appearance and placement of data fields on the panel is customized to best suit its purpose and intended user. The panel may look like an existing paper form or it may be broken up into multiple screens with related fields grouped on the same screen. It would be awkward to have the field definitions appear directly on the panel itself. So there must be a way to define the fields separate from the panel and connect these definitions to the location of the fields on the panel. A method to mark fields on a panel is described. The panel designer first defines the fields for the panel in a pop-up window.
