Abstract

This support has been developed in order to test a TAB (Tape Automated Bonding) tape. It can be mounted on a commercially available probing station, and allows 9 frames to be successively and automatically tested. Referring to the figure, tape clamping on the test support 10 is performed using both lateral sprocket holes 11 and locator studs 12. Small holes 13 coupled to a vacuum system assure tape immobilization; in addition, clamping rails 14, 15 increase planarity. Tape moving (9 frames each time) can be easily automated. This principle can be adapted each time a clamping effort is required in the TAB process (for instance: frame visual inspection, sampling cut off, tape excising, bus-cutting, etc.). The same approach can be used for clamping any number of frames.
