Automotive Multiple Output Switching Power Supply

This article describes a switching circuit arrangement to convert an automobile battery voltage to three different voltage sources for use in an advanced display controller. The circuit arrangement disclosed herein is for a power supply system that will operate in the harsh automotive environment and deliver multiple output voltages. The system is designed to supply the required voltages necessary to operate an automotive display system. (Image Omitted) As shown in Fig. 1, the power supply derives its energy from the automobile battery (+VBAT). The operational status of the power supply is controlled using the two inputs -SWITCH1 AND +SWITCH2. The +V12C output is a conditioned form of the battery voltage. It is filtered and clamped against negative and large positive voltage swings.
