A method is required for third party programmers to add additional link/profile types to snaconfig and yet maintain compatibility with the existing interface. Every time another card/device driver is ported to the RT either a separate configuration program must be written or an IBM programmer must add code to the existing configuration program. The snaconfig program of the AIX operating system for the IBM PC RT consists of two main parts: an executable module called snaconfig and a file of screen descriptors call cfsdpro.d. To add or delete a profile type/link type, both files must be changed. The snaconfig program is currently table driven with its rules and references defined in a compiled type table and option table.
