Abstract

A communication protocol between the DBX and XDBX Debugging Programs of the AIX Operating System is described. Xdbx is an interactive windowing interface to the dbx debugger. The internal interfaces between the windowing xdbx and the dbx debugger are described. The operating model of the interface between xdbx and dbx is as follows: 1) there are four unit pipes connecting xdbx and dbx, 2) the pipes are arranged such that one corresponds to dbx's stdin, one to dbx's stdout, one to dbx's stderr, and one for communicating special information. When xdbx invokes dbx, an additional flag is passed on the command line which allows dbx to connect the original stdin, stdout and pipe.
