Abstract

Disclosed is an optical element for focusing a scanning light beam onto the surface of a photoconductor. The optical element is an aspheric reflector having focusing power in two orthogonal directions. The laser print head shown in the figure contains a light source providing a beam of collimated light and a photosensor having a surface. A scanning element scans the collimated light beam in a line across the surface of the photosensor. An aspheric reflective element focuses the scanning light beam onto the surface of the photosensor. The light source may be a laser provided with a collimator and cylindrical lens for partially focusing (converging) the beam in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the beam is scanned. The scanning element may be a rotating polygon mirror.
