Generalized Framing Algorithm for American (Ti) and European (Cept) Primary Layer 1 Frame Structures

A technique is described whereby a generalized framing algorithm provides a systematic and rapid approach for connecting communications equipment to a primary rate interface, such as integrated services digital network (ISDN), to achieve frame synchronization in a time significantly shorter than that required by CCITT standards. The circuitry is based on implementing pseudo-simultaneous executive concepts, in a random-access memory (RAM) a large number of state machines. (Image Omitted) Design for the algorithm arose from the requirement for a layer 1 circuit so as to satisfy the primary layer 1 for ISDN as drafted by the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultive Committee (CCITT) in Red Book, Vol. III, Fascicle III.5 (I-Series), recommendation I.431, as well as ATT's D4 format.
