Abstract

This article describes an automatic machine in the production of thermal conduction modules (TCMs) for helium fill valve leak test comprising four process stations. Each station functions independently of the others. The process steps are executed and monitored by a microprocessor. (Image Omitted) In the assembly line for producing TCMs a section includes a helium fill valve leak test process. In this process, three major goals are achieved. First, the inside volume of the TCM is evacuated to a pressure below one millimeter of mercury to evaporate all contaminants and remove moisture. Second, the TCM is filled to approximately 2.0 atmospheres absolute with ultra high pure helium gas. The third is to make sure that the TCM fill valve has actually closed after helium filling, by measuring its leak rate.
