Variable Compliance Printhead for a Resistive Ribbon Printer
Original Publication Date: 1988-Jan-01

Differential wear of electrodes arranged in a column on a resistive ribbon printhead is minimized, if not eliminated, through controlling the thickness or hardness of a rubber backing, which is behind the column of electrodes, in accordance with the relative wear of the electrodes. The minimization or elimination of the differential wear prevents curved looking characters, which are particularly noticeable on tall verticals, being produced when the lengths of electrodes are changed due to wear of the heavily used electrodes.
