Solid metal pistons are spring loaded to bear against the back of each chip of a circuit module, as is conventional. Each piston has two vertical slots that are open at the top of the piston. Inside the module, fin-like water carrying tubes are located to pass through these slots and to cool the piston. Each slot has two tubes, a lower supply tube and an upper return tube. The pistons are square in cross section to provide a maximum area for heat transfer from the piston to the water tube. The module can have different numbers of tubes, different numbers of channels per tube, and various flow patterns in the channels.
