An interactive, graphic, solid modeling, system permits a user to specify features, called fastener paths, which identify intended locations for fasteners such as screws, nuts, and washers in parts that are to be assembled. Fastener paths are represented by a center line on a drawing or a display screen. After the paths have been specified the user can request the system to assign the proper fastener components and torque value for assembling the parts. The procedure for accomplishing this is as follows.
