The outer protective covering of a cable is removed to expose a short length of the underlying conductive shield, and a split conductive grommet is placed over the exposed shield. The grommet is made of a conductive resilient material and electrical contact is established between the ground shield of the cable and grommet. Heat shrink plastic tubing is placed on either side of the grommet to cover the exposed shield and to overlap a short length of the adjacent outer covering.
