High Accuracy Locator Structure for Beam Leads Mounted To a Dielectric Tape

Locator holes 1, in the flexible dielectric film 2 of a tape having a spaced series of conducting beam lead patterns 3 thereon, are designed for mating engagement with locator pins 5 on a vacuum actuated pick-up die 6. The pick-up die pins are aligned with the locator holes. A vacuum is applied through vacuum ports 7 in the pick-up die to hold the tape in place. The locator hole and pin combination permits accurate alignment of the beam lead patterns to the pick-up die.
