In an automatic terminal attaching system, wires are clamped a short distance from their ends to the edges of a conveyor so that the ends of the wire extend a predetermined distance into a series of stations that are located on either side of the conveyor. In one of these stations a new tool measures the height of a crimp in a terminal that was attached to a wire at an earlier station. The terminal attaching system handles different wires for a cable, and a data processing system signals the expected terminal height for the wire being tested.
