Abstract

Fig. 1 illustrates a tool that serves the purpose of both a lamination press pad and a vacuum frame. The device typically consists of two sheets of oversize silicone rubber mat. If required to improve the seal, a putty-like sealant tape is placed around the perimeter of the pad. A pipe is inserted in between the pads and is connected to the process vacuum pump which evacuates the product in its enclosure. As the chamber is evacuated, the atmospheric pressure outside the envelope pinches the two pads together, enhancing the seal.
