An application's requirements may be such that the information presented to a user must be different depending on conditions present at execution of the application. For example, an employee database might need to be updated by a variety of data entry clerks. However, if the salary and performance rating fields could be optionally not be displayed, the same application could be used for all those accessing the database with only the payroll clerks and applicable managers having access to the privileged data.
